Following the music (historic organs), I came to Germany long ago. That one year turned into two, then twenty, and at some point I stopped counting.
A long stint as an editor, producer, radio host and author at Germany’s international broadcaster brought me into close and ongoing contact with the classical music scene, its stars and performances. But always curious, I’ve dipped into the worlds of jazz, rock, experimental music and even went so far as Eurovision to explore the power that music has over people.
Thirty-one seasons at the Wagner Festival in Bayreuth obviously left their mark, but did you know that you could visit half the opera houses in the world and never leave German soil? My personal list of auditoriums conquered keeps growing.
The riches are worthless though if they are not shared in one way or another. Social media and articles are fine, but it’s time to shake off the constraints. Surprise and discovery, meaning and relevance, a metaphor for life and all its manifestations, spiritual power and primal energy, it’s all there.
